Tubotel Langkawi

Our room faced the seafront, and the view was beautiful. The air conditioning worked better than at any other hotel we’ve stayed in, it was perfect. We loved having a meal while watching the sunset, especially the Caesar salad and mango soda. The staff always had a smile, and the owner made sure guests were being looked after. Little Susi the dog was my favourite part of the trip, such a great addition to the hotel ❤️ Thanks for a lovely stay.

The ocean backdrop and sunsets were beautiful, and the rooms matched their description, but that was about where the good parts ended. The place smelled, probably because of the drains, and our room was right beside the bathrooms. The shared area may once have been nice, but now it feels abandoned. Cleanliness was disappointing, especially in the filthy bathrooms. The water pressure was barely a dribble, and it was only lukewarm, so after days at the beach we felt dirty each evening. When I asked about the showers, I was told to use the bday to clean myself. Alex said he didn’t know what I meant and was rude and dismissive. I later heard him discussing it within earshot at the restaurant. The owner Alex seems focused on the restaurant and not the accommodation, and could make more of an effort to acknowledge hostel guests and make them feel welcome. The restaurant food is lovely, but the prices are high for budget backpackers. Tubotel is a 25 minute walk from the centre. We didn’t mind that, since it meant a quieter, more peaceful setting.

The view from the Tubes accommodation was beautiful, and the aircon worked really well. Staff were friendly and helpful. There’s very little space, if any, to put down a bag or get changed. The bathrooms were the main problem: they smelled, the toilets were blocked, and the showers had no water pressure. If you’re okay not showering during your stay, this place might suit you. The location is okay. With a moto or car, parking and getting into town are easy, about 5 minutes. Grabs were only 5r and never far away.

The seaside setting is nice, but the place is small and expensive. I don’t agree with paying a service charge at a hotel. A can of coke costs 2 in the shop and 13 here with the service charge. Music woke me at 8am, and nobody was at the bar to turn it down. There’s hardly any space, so if it rains you’ll be stuck inside your tube. For the price, you can get an apartment. My bed sheets weren’t changed during my stay, and I wouldn’t count on getting a clean, fresh bed, especially since they charge 25 to change the sheets. At 9am, people were outside my room clearing leaves from the ocean rocks. I was woken constantly, which made for a very unrelaxing stay.
