Heeren Straits Hotel

The homemade breakfast made the stay feel personal, and the team were warm and respectful throughout. They even stood to greet guests as they arrived, which felt attentive and professional. It’s a well-run, welcoming place with a home-like feel, and I’d happily recommend giving it a try.

We booked four nights for late May 2025, but left after the first night. Room 101, the only room on the ground floor, had a powerful mouldy smell. Maintenance came to check and agreed it was there. They advised us to leave the windows and door open and sprayed something to help. After an hour it was a little better, but the smell was still around when we returned that evening, even with the air conditioning running. I barely slept. In the morning I asked reception to move us, but they said there were no rooms and suggested spraying perfume. We cancelled the rest of our booking and found another hotel. I’m concerned for anyone staying in a room with such a strong mould smell. It seems like a health hazard the hotel should address. Very disappointing.

Breakfast was tasty, and the staff were friendly. The hotel has a really nice view inside, too. We had a nice stay with friends, though getting to the level 2 bedroom meant climbing stairs, and there was another set inside the bedroom. At least it’s good exercise 😉.

The location is amazing and the staff are lovely, but the rooms feel worn out and dated. Noise from the plumbing in other rooms kept me awake until after 2am.
