OYO 415 Straits Settlement Inn

I liked the room theme and the facilities were great. The bathroom was a little bigger than in a typical budget hotel. There’s a shared iron and ironing board, a machine for hot and cold water, and an ice cream fridge in the lobby, which was a nice touch.

I really regret booking this room. It left a bad impression and didn’t feel worth the money. It was dirty, the TV remote was broken, and turning the air conditioner to its lowest temperature didn’t seem to help. The dirty air triggered my nose allergy, and there was a smell. The room lock was broken too.

A quiet spot away from town, with a friendly neighbourhood. It’s fine if you mainly need somewhere to sleep and expect to be out most of the time. If you’re travelling alone, be extra careful at night, as the area gets dark and silent. Management could fix the toilet door handle, and the TV is mounted quite high for its size.

The location is handy, close to Aeon Bandaraya and Melaka Sentral, but the room was badly maintained. Mold covered the walls, possibly from a leak, and the water heater didn’t work. There was no Wi-Fi, and ants and small flies were everywhere. The water dispenser on the walkway had mosquito larvae, so watch out. At night, traffic from cars and motorcycles was audible. I wouldn’t recommend it.
