The staff were kind and helpful, and it was cheap for a temporary stay. Still, I was annoyed to smell cigarette smoke in the hallway of this non-smoking building. It even came through the gap around my room door. My room had no window and wasn’t well ventilated, so I hope they take the no-smoking rule seriously and fine people who break it.

I booked and paid online, then arrived around 5-6 pm. I asked for a ground-floor room because I had a lot of things to carry and needed to check out early, around 7:45-8 am. The hotel has no lift. They asked for a deposit, which I agreed to, although that hadn’t been mentioned in the online booking. The staff said there was a ground-floor room, but that its air conditioning couldn’t be adjusted. I was exhausted after coming from KL, going to Desaru, and then reaching Pasir Gudang, so I accepted, thinking I’d only have to put up with it for a few hours. I figured I could turn it off and wait until I got too warm to switch it back on. I asked whether there were cockroaches, but the staff member didn’t answer directly. She said they could get in from outside through the gap under the door. That made me worry about hygiene and pest control. I had little choice and kept quiet, but thought about getting Baygon for cockroaches from my car so I wouldn’t have to call staff if something happened. My room was opposite the public washroom, so I thought one could come in from there under the door. When I got my bags in and turned on the air conditioner, I saw that the swing vent wouldn’t open, and there was no remote in the room. So it couldn’t be adjusted, and the airflow wasn’t normal (see picture). I didn’t complain because I thought they might move me upstairs, where there were no empty rooms on the ground floor. I stayed quiet until the staff member knocked about 30 minutes later while I was eating. She had a list and suddenly said I needed to pay extra because she’d overlooked my room type. I told her she had assigned me that room, and that its air conditioner had problems. I also said I’d be leaving early, so another guest could check in after me. She said that wasn’t her problem and insisted I had asked for the ground-floor room. I first agreed to add RM10 from my deposit, but her rude tone made me repeat my points. I then shut the door without giving a final answer. She kept talking about me with another staff member, an uncle, loudly enough that I could hear everything. When she knocked a second time, I didn’t open the door. I felt the room had been assigned by her, and I hadn’t taken a room without permission. There was little privacy: I could hear conversations at reception, and the public washroom and a room used for pantry or laundry, I can’t remember which, were in front of mine. The noise disturbed my privacy and kept me from getting enough rest or sleep. It continued after that. The woman made a phone call while trying to knock again. From what I could make out, the person on the phone had set up the room, and she’d assigned it to me without checking. I also heard that a room on Level 3 had air conditioning trouble and no TV, so they said it couldn’t be used for guests either. At the end, the woman blamed the person she’d called.

The price is reasonable, so I’d recommend this hotel for solo trips. Service was satisfactory, though toiletries were limited to towels. I did feel a little itchy during my stay because of an issue with the bed.

I had a horrible experience. The bed, room, and toilet were dirty, and the boss was impolite. The surroundings are very dark at night, which made the hotel difficult to find. It may suit a solo male traveler or a group, but solo women should think carefully before staying.

At first the almost-abandoned commercial and industrial area made me question my choice, but everything went fine. The room door was another concern: it didn’t close firmly, and you could see inside through the gap between the door and frame. The latch was exposed too, so a credit card could slide it open from outside. Fortunately, there was a deadbolt on the inside.
