The building looks old, and the outside walls could use some refurbishment and a fresh coat of paint. Our room sink also drained slowly. Still, we had a pleasant stay at Seri Malaysia Hotel in Mersing and thought it was good value. The hotel is near the public beach and recreational areas, with plenty of free parking. Staff were welcoming and helpful, and the sheets and towels were clean and fresh. Breakfast was tasty and satisfying, with nasi lemak, toast, lontong, fruit, tea and coffee. There’s a swimming pool too, though it might feel small when lots of guests are using it. We’d be glad to stay again, especially if some refurbishment is done.

I was at Hotel Seri Malaysia Mersing while a close family member was receiving medical treatment in Mersing. The room wasn’t very clean, had a musty smell when I arrived, and the old bathroom seemed to need maintenance. That felt especially heavy when I was already emotionally drained. I did manage to get some rest, though, as the hotel was generally quiet, particularly in the evenings. The front desk and housekeeping staff were polite and accommodating when I needed a late check-in or extra towels, and their kindness was comforting. Its central location also made things easier, with the hospital or clinic, pharmacies, food stalls, convenience stores and ATMs not far away, so I could get meals and supplies when needed.

The location is a real plus: the beach and Dataran Monumen Mersing are both within walking distance, and there’s plenty of parking, which is a big advantage over shop-lot hotels. In the evening, parents can rent toy cars for children to ride nearby. The building clearly has been operating for many years. There’s no lift, but ground-floor rooms are available. The hotel restaurant serves set meals at an extra charge. There’s a swimming pool that we didn’t try because of the rainy season, though other guests were using it, so it seemed properly maintained. The facilities are generally old, with some damage, and the seaside location has left many wooden doors and corridor handrails worn and slightly deteriorated.

The rooms smell, the ceilings in both the room and bathroom are in a shameful state, the tiles are dirty, and insects are everywhere. It’s shocking to find a hotel under the Ministry of Tourism in such poor condition. If a hotel represents the country, it should meet a minimum quality standard. Being old doesn’t excuse neglecting proper upkeep. This is far below acceptable standards.

The air conditioner was noisy enough to make it hard to rest, and the coffee table outside the room was filthy too. Inside, the room smelled bad as soon as I walked in, with a sticky floor that clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. The bathroom was dirty and unhygienic, completely unacceptable. Cleanliness and maintenance were far below what any guest should expect. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless serious improvements are made.
