Miri Waterfront Homestay

Room 233’s hair dryer is broken and needs replacing. The room wasn’t well maintained and smelled unpleasant. If hygiene matters to you, you probably won’t like this hotel. You can refer to the photos.

We stayed in Miri for eight nights in total, all at Ajang Hotel, after extending our trip. Because we extended at short notice, we switched rooms once, from a standard city view room to a windowless one. We actually preferred the windowless room: it was bigger, had better amenities, and wasn’t noisy from the nearby nightclub. The corridor on the 3rd floor had a strange smell that seeped into our room, while the 1st floor was much better. The windowless room had a mini fridge, kettle, LCD TV, safe, and hairdryer. The safe and hairdryer were missing from the standard room. Both rooms were reasonably clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the internet was fast and worked very well. Reception staff were friendly and accommodating, and let us check in a bit early after our airport arrival. Most Miri attractions are a 10-15 minute walk away. Overall, a pleasant stay.

The room was nice, and I could check in early because the free hair staff were given. Housekeeping were friendly, and I’ll stay again. But at checkout, the woman wearing a tudung was rude when calling people to check out and wasn’t friendly. I hope they rotate her to housekeeping.

The room smelled bad and had too much dust. Water flow in the bathroom was poor, it flooded, the air conditioning was noisy and not cold, and the refrigerator was broken. There was only one tooth, and the kettle was moldy. The wall paint was poorly done, the Wi-Fi was slow, and a broken switch seemed dangerous. Nothing felt worth the price of a 3-star hotel. Some 2-star hotels are much better. Not recommended at all. This was my first and last time here.
