I booked seven nights but had such a bad experience that I didn’t stay even one. The listing said check-in was available from noon, but the man didn’t get to the property until 4:15 pm. He first showed me a dirty room, then said he’d clean the one next door for me instead. About 20 minutes later, after I’d bought a plug-in chemical repellent spray, he took me to that room. There were mosquitoes everywhere, and I was bitten repeatedly straight away. The room was dusty and worn, and I could have lived with that to be near nature and enjoy the views, but I couldn’t accept a room infested with mosquitoes for that price. There wasn’t even a mosquito net to hide behind. They were clearly getting in somehow and laying eggs. I can’t speak for the other rooms, and the fair reviews must come from somewhere, but rooms 11 and 12 were dirty and full of mosquitoes.

Zikril, the guy in charge, was great, and we enjoyed spending a few days here. It’s a huge place with lots of room options, and we had a fan room, though air-conditioned rooms are available too. The toilets were okay. It’s just 150 metres from the beach and all the food places, which made the location handy. This was definitely the best option for us on the island, and it was the cheapest alternative too. Thank you, Zikril!

I spent 10 days here and enjoyed it. The nights were very quiet, and it was soothing to sit close by and watch the hornbills flitting through the jungle. Birds and jungle surround this simple, pleasant camp. The beaches were clean, with few people swimming. A quiet place with no frills.

The staff were friendly, and the place is a five-minute walk from the beach, with another beach about ten minutes away in either direction. We stayed in a Double Fan room up on the hill, with a lovely view over the lush garden and distant mountains. I really enjoyed sitting peacefully on the porch. There’s a pleasant common area where the Wi-Fi seemed to work best, with hammocks, tables, chairs, a full kitchen, an outdoor sink, and garbage and recycling. The ceiling fan in our room was powerful. The washroom had a bucket and hose bidet, and the shower pressure was sometimes low, though I didn’t mind. There were a few friendly cats and dogs around, and monkeys sometimes came by, so keep food put away. I loved our stay and had no complaints, as long as you’re not expecting somewhere new, modern, or fancy.

I couldn’t wait to leave. It’s the cheapest accommodation around, but still expensive compared with other places in Malaysia, and I found it hard to sleep well here. The two-person huts look cute, but they’re full of holes that let mosquitoes in. The place also has lots of dogs, and therefore fleas. Every time I went outside to brush my teeth at the outdoor sinks, I got about four bites. It’s a very basic, worn-down place, and I really can’t recommend it.
