The outside of the room looks quite run down, but inside it was great. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom had reliable hot water. The WiFi didn’t work, luckily my mobile data did. I loved the balcony scenery, and it’s very close to Mount Kinabalu. This was my first visit to Kundasang.

From the verandah and even the parking area, you get a beautiful view of Mount Kinabalu. The room has the basic essentials and its own verandah, plus the water heater gets very hot and the water pressure is good. Parking is roomy and easy to get into. There’s no soundproofing, so expect to hear noise, which may not suit anyone looking for a quiet or romantic stay. It’s good value for the money if you’re fine with the basics.

You can’t count on every room having a Mount Kinabalu view. Ask about it before you book.

I had a terrible stay and won’t come back. We weren’t told in the booking or on the website about extra fees for checking in late. Staff said they call guests who haven’t arrived by 9 pm and explain the charge then, but the amount changes depending on arrival time. That felt like a rip-off. The room and all the sheets and blankets smelled musty and mouldy. A friend got an electric shock from a switch in one of the rooms, and the towels didn’t seem clean or freshly washed. The next day there was no electricity or water. We were completely disappointed by what happened and by the staff’s response.
