Gloria Swiss Hotel & Apartment Sandakan

The location is in an industrial zone, with dilapidated units around it, and it's distant from Sandakan. The room was spacious and clean, the bathroom facilities were good, and the staff on site were very helpful. But private businesses operate on the open lower ground floor, including a Family Karaoke club. The noise was awful and kept us from sleeping until 1am. The hotel said it had no control over the karaoke club. At 11.30pm, after we finally found a staff member, they offered to move us. I walked around the building's perimeter and could hear the noise everywhere, so there was no escape. We phoned the Manager the next morning to complain, but she wouldn't give her name. They refunded one night. We were booked for three more nights but didn't want to risk going without sleep for that long. The Manager wasn't on site, so she couldn't know how loud it had been. I understand they also host weddings directly beneath hotel rooms, which would concern me. There was no breakfast or dining option. A dismal, disappointing experience.

The rooms are cosy and the staff give great service. It's a little out of the way, but handy if you want to be near the bus station or sepilok.

We've stayed here many times and highly recommend it to family and colleagues. For this price, you can't find similar service in main town. The place is spacious and clean, the staff are friendly. Thanks.

Food options and a mini market are nearby. The receptionist was very friendly and polite, but we hardly slept because a karaoke bar is right behind the hotel. The bed sheets were clean, though the WiFi and mini fridge didn't work, and the sofas were quite dirty.
