OYO 774 Hotel Iskandar

I woke up with back pain because the bed was old, sagging, and soft, with the springs poking into my back. The room was poorly maintained, and the location isn’t strategic. There was no tissue or toilet paper.

I stayed one night in a Standard Double Room with a Queen Size bed and Aircond. It was a middle room with no windows, which I didn’t mind. The room was tidy and clean, though the bedsheets had a few small stains. It felt cramped, but there was a little space to pray and a prayer mat. The table was just big enough for a laptop. The air conditioning worked well, sometimes too well, and the clothing rack and hangars were awkwardly placed. If you hang all your clothes there, they’ll crowd you when you sit at the table. 😂😅 Check-in was quick. I could pay by QR, but needed to leave an RM50 cash deposit, which was returned after my stay. They scanned my front IC, then gave me a clean towel and TV remote. The lack of windows and cramped space can feel a bit claustrophobic, though it was fine for me. You can clearly hear people laughing, kids running, and doors opening and closing. Thankfully, the hotel is in a fairly empty area, so there weren’t many lorries or restaurants making noise late at night, and things quieted down after midnight. The toilet was clean and flushed well. The sink was tiny, with little space for toiletries, but there were plenty of hooks. The shower was extremely slow, though at least it was hot. There’s no lift, only stairs, so it’s not very accessible. There are two ironing stations, but I don’t know how well they work. Restaurant options are limited, though Richiamo and Speedmart are nearby. It was a good experience apart from the very slow shower.

The management is bad, the room was dusty and unclean, and there was no proper service. The staff were rude. Highly not recommended, please don’t visit.

There are plenty of shops and places to eat nearby, the location is good, it’s close to University Teknologi petronas, and the bus stand is 600m away. The staff were very nice and the room was okay. If all you need is a bed for one or two nights, it’s a decent budget place. If you’re expecting more of a hotel, look elsewhere. The room feels more like a motel than it would in other places. The small toilets were clean, but the room itself was small. I was in a three-person room, where the bathroom was okay, but in a two-person room the shower is so close to the commode that you can barely bathe without touching it. The bed was clean, though the sheet and pillowcase were old. There was a water kettle but no cups, water bottle, or toilet paper, so I had to ask the staff downstairs for them. I chose a room with a window, which turned out to be a bad idea. Its old aluminium frame couldn’t close fully, and the gaps were obvious enough for flying ants to get in at night and cool air from the AC to leak out. I left my subway sandwich there overnight and found it covered in ants in the morning. The lights were old and dim, and the clothes rack in the bathroom was weak and displaced. The walls don’t block sound well, so I could hear people talking and laughing in other rooms all night. The TV only had a few local channels, which was boring. There are lots of auto body shops in the area, so car engines roared every morning.
