Riverside Palm Inn Sg Lembing

The owner was welcoming and knew a lot about the area, and the resort itself was spotless. Sungai Lembing has plenty to see and local food to try, including Rainbow Waterfall and traditional noodles. A great place for a holiday if you want to unwind and get away from city life.

We stayed at Riverside for four days, and owner Leon went out of his way to help us. He shared lots of local food and places to explore. Karaoke and mahjong are available in the lobby, and motorbikes and scooters are kept at the basement porch. They're first come, first served. The complimentary motorbikes made it fun for my family to get around the kampung, find eateries and explore the neighborhood. We understand Riverside Palm Inn is the only place offering this service. We had the quadruple room with balcony (rm 226) and the deluxe double room with balcony (rm 224). Don't expect the rooms to be cleaned during a multi-day stay, but the owner responds to requests and questions. There was no TV or safe in the room. Bath towels and 3-in-1 shampoo were provided, but no toothpaste or toothbrush.

The owner and staff were very friendly, and the weather was pleasantly cool during our two-night stay. We had a nice river view from the room balcony. The owner also provided motorbikes that we could ride for free.

The common area had plenty to use: instant coffee and tea, crackers, bread and jam, drinking water, a fridge and freezer, plus an LED TV screen and karaoke system. Leon and his helper were warm and generous, lending us a motorbike and giving detailed directions to restaurants, 'abandoned' mining sites, the peak of Bukit Panaroma and Gua Charas in Panching. Leon also shared tips about the well cared for Monstera, Caladium and Staghorn Fern plants. This modernized stay is by the river and within walking distance of local restaurants and shops for pastries and souvenirs, including taufufa and coconut biscuit. Our room was clean and had the basic necessities. What stood out most was that the year before, when we asked about booking for December, they advised us against coming because it was the rainy and flooding season and we probably wouldn't see the rainbow at the waterfall. It felt like they cared more about guests' experience than making a profit. We were able to make a last-minute reservation the night before for an unforgettable Rainbow Waterfall trip with Uncle Yun Fei, a local, experienced and humorous tourguide. I believe he may be the only local tourguide who brings instant noodles and drinks up to the waterfall and cooks hot food for guests there.
