The hotel cut off the water supply, and the floor still felt soapy, like it hadn’t been cleaned properly. I was on the second floor, and when the lift doors opened, there was a bad smell. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at.
It’s worth the money, with a very good location, a lift for elderly guests and wheelchair users, and friendly staff.
For the price, the room is spacious and has the basics a backpacker needs: hot water, coffee, and a TV. The location’s convenient too. One of the town’s biggest malls is a ten-minute walk away, there’s plenty of food nearby, a hospital across the street, and parking is easy, especially at night. The standout was the young Indian guy at reception. He seemed to do the work of a dozen staff and helped with everything. When my key card didn’t work, he ran upstairs with a replacement without fuss or questions. He was friendly and helpful the whole time, the kind of service you don’t often get even at 5-star hotels. There are some real drawbacks. The Wi-Fi barely works, and the pillows could use a good wash. The bathroom floor was dusty, the curtains had fungus, and the doors are so thin you can hear every step outside. The design can make it feel almost like a love hotel. There’s also a small indoor pond around the stairs, which sounds pleasant until you notice the water pressure is as weak as a leaking roof. K Garden Hotel Sungai Petani looks as if an Arab prince built it with a wild budget, part medieval castle and part Art Deco museum. It tries to look fancy, but you soon notice the flaws. Still, for a short stay on a tight budget, K Garden punches above its weight.
The place is okay, but the hair dryer can't be used. The Wi-Fi is slow even though there are several networks, and I could only connect to one. Also, the ironing board cover looked a bit dirty and needs replacing or something to cover it. The iron itself is sticky too 🥀🥀🥀
At 2.00AM on 19/4, the Indian young man at reception was so helpful and professional. He made everything easy and pleasant. Really appreciated how well he looked after us. 👌👍
