Golden Roof Hotel Taiping

We checked in on 22/12 and had booked two nights. The room photos looked impressive, but the real room was different. The floor cracked every time we walked, and the toilet door made an even louder cracking sound. I hadn't checked carefully before booking. There was no hotel parking, so we had to buy parking tickets and leave the car on the roadside. With no fridge, keeping fresh milk for my grandson was inconvenient. On the second day, the room key had to be reactivated. There was only one hanger, and the room had one single bed and one large bed for three occupants.

We booked a room with two king beds, but it was filthy and smelled awful, and didn't look like the pictures. The bathroom was shabby, dirty, and mouldy, and nobody dared step inside. The hotel staff were polite and apologetic, but said there was nothing they could do about a refund. Staying there was a nightmare.

The interior and bed were okay, but the place wasn't worth the price. It's a renovated single-storey shop lot hotel with no lift, just stairs, so I wouldn't recommend it for elderly people. There are no windows or views apart from the toilet window, and the water pressure was so low it was hard to shower. A water dispenser in the corridor has hot and cold water, but hot water isn't available after 11pm. There's a pub just opposite, with loud music playing until 2am. I wouldn't recommend it for families with infants or kids.

The check-in was a mess. I gave the receptionist my Agoda booking number and personal details, but she first assigned us someone else's booking. After a short wait she sorted it out and gave us keys, but once we'd unpacked she came up to say she'd given us the wrong room and asked us to pack up and move. She had also given our correct keys to the other party. We all asked housekeeping to tidy the rooms, but the housekeeper was reluctant and literally told us and the receptionist, "you cannot talk to me. You talk to downstairs and they will talk to me". Even after more drama, nobody gave us so much as a verbal apology. There is no private parking, though public parking is available. The rooms aren't well maintained either, with a broken floorboard and peeling laminate.
