Mentawak Chalet

The beach was stunning, but that doesn’t make up for what happened at Mentawak Chalet. The room was filthy, with sticky floors and dust and dirt all over the bathroom. The aircond didn’t work, and even after we complained, they wouldn’t fix it. We were still charged full price, with no responsibility taken. There was nobody at reception to help, and the owner came across as extremely rude and interested only in our money. We’d confirmed a late check-out with the owner, but the owner's child rudely kicked us out anyway. I was travelling with an infant, and we had to walk 1.2km to the jetty in the scorching midday sun. Nobody from the chalet offered help or even asked about our transport. There was no sense of hospitality or care. This place felt hostile and irresponsible, and I strongly do not recommend it. Save yourself the stress and stay far away.

The sunrises were a highlight, and there were lots of food options nearby. We had a fantastic 3-day stay and I’d definitely recommend this homestay. The beach and accommodation were clean, the AC and WiFi worked great, and having an outdoor tap was a handy extra.

We stayed at Mentawak Chalet for 8 nights and wished we could have stayed even longer. Our hut opened straight toward the sea, and it was clean and peaceful. There was a kettle and mini fridge in the room, and the WiFi connection was very good. The owners were always ready to help with requests and did what they could to make us comfortable. They even arranged a special birthday surprise for us. It was one of the nicest places to stay around Juara on Tioman Island. We hope we can come back one day. Thank you for everything.

The room is decent for the price, and the hut opens right onto the beach. The woman who runs the place is supportive and helpful. WiFi is a bit weak, though that's not really why you're here. There are a few good places to eat nearby. I’d recommend it if you’ll spend most of the day outdoors. Booking directly costs less than Agoda.
