I’ve stayed at Hotel Girasol in Nampula several times, in 2006, 2011, 2013, and 2019, and it has kept a dependable standard over the years. It’s a practical choice for repeat visits, with a central location close to key landmarks and only a few kilometers from the airport. The rooms are functional rather than fancy, and the staff are generally welcoming. A straightforward, familiar place for business or leisure.

There’s plenty close at hand: a supermarket across the road, a restaurant in the hotel, and a casino if you enjoy that. I also appreciated having a choice of smoking or non-smoking areas. The service from reception and the other departments was very good and much appreciated. I really enjoyed staying here.

I was invited to Restaurant Twins, which people had described as the best Portuguese restaurant in Nampula. The menu had fewer options than I expected, and the service fell short of what I’d hoped for. Sorry for being honest.

At the Girassol restaurant on the first floor, you can look out over the Nampulian mountains while choosing from a fairly Portuguese menu. The hotel room is good value for a short stay, and the location is right in central Nampula. There’s a newly built hotel behind it, an entertainment park nearby, and disco club Mp3 by the exit. The mall and hotel also bring together more than a dozen outlets, including mobile phone shops, IT hardware, cafes, GSM operators (mcel/TDM/TvCabo), a casino, and a bank. It has quite a lot going on for a small town, with a feel of Portuguese colonial history.
