I loved the secluded pitches and the unusual bathrooms and toilets, raised up on stilts. The whole bush feel was great, especially heating water in a “donkie.” There’s also plenty of space to prepare food, with a sink and hot water from the nearby fireplace and donkie.

The tent was our one letdown. It got very hot and was hard to cool, and with the full moon shining in through uncovered windows, the room stayed bright at night. Curtains would have helped. The communal area has a cool, almost “hipster” look, and the staff were friendly. We liked the elephant track and the food was delicious. Otherwise, it was a lovely place.

The setting is unforgettable: the campsite is built into a boulder mountain, and the road in winds through dry riverbeds and around rocky hills that look like someone stacked giant peanuts. Around sunset, the boulders across the area, including the one the camp sits in, are incredibly photogenic. The whole place has a bush-crafted feel, from the bathrooms and showers to the restaurant, bar, and pool, with a car-repurposing theme throughout. It’s a small boutique campsite with limited camping space, but the pool, bar, and restaurant made for an experience we won’t forget. We’ve never stayed at a prettier campsite anywhere. The staff were super friendly, and there’s no WiFi. If you’re after the big Gondwana, follow-the-flock kind of place, this probably won’t suit you. The more private, pricier sites are across the riverbed. Shane (New Zealand / Australia)

The sunset hike was the standout for us. We’ve watched plenty of sunsets, but this one was on another level. We also really enjoyed chatting with the bartender and host, and hearing their stories about Namibia, its people, and wildlife. Sorry we didn’t get your name! We loved our stay at Madisa Camp. Our site looked out over the rocks, and the pool and private bathroom area were fantastic. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into the details. It’s the best campsite we’ve experienced so far, and we highly recommend it.

We went on the game drive to the Brandberg area to look for desert elephants, and it was fantastic. Our guide knew a lot, and seeing the elephants in that landscape was a real highlight. The little hill next to camp is also worth climbing around sunrise or sunset. The view is breathtaking, and we had a good chance to spot rock hyraxes (Klippschliefer). We visited Madisa Camp in June 2024 and found it peaceful, comfortable, and very well maintained. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and the freshly prepared food was delicious. The campsites are thoughtfully laid out, and the raised showers and toilets on stilts are a charming touch. June mornings were quite cold, but daytime was warm and pleasant. It was still a bit too cool for us to swim. We’d gladly return and recommend the camp to anyone traveling through the region. It brings together comfort, nature, and adventure very nicely.
