Hôtel Tiéti Poindimié

The views are beautiful, and the design mixes indigenous style with modern touches nicely. The room could use some renovation, though, and access to warm water and Wi-Fi needs improvement.

The staff were very friendly, the pool was good, and both the drinks and atmosphere were nice. The location is outstanding, and it was very quiet for tourists, which let us switch to two cabins in separate spots after a booking mix-up. The receptionist spotted the problem and sorted it quickly. We were a couple travelling with our adult daughter, and had booked a two-bedroom family suite, but were first put in a room with a queen bed and a mezzanine reached by very steep, narrow stairs. Maybe exciting for a 10-year-old, but it wasn't the suite we'd booked. The restaurant food was expensive and not very good, so we ate outside the hotel most nights. The hotel is a bit tired and needs care, including replacement boardwalks. The car park also has potholes about 20 cm deep and 50 cm wide. Tourism needs to pick up again after the 2024 political upheaval in New Caledonia, then a lot of money needs to go into bringing the place up to standard.

The woman at reception and the restaurant staff were friendly, but the rooms are dated and everything feels a bit tired. The shower didn't drain properly, leaving half the bathroom flooded, and the paint was damaged. The food was absolutely terrible, and there was no real atmosphere in the restaurant, more like a funeral hall.

The bed was comfortable, the amenities were pretty good, and the bar and restaurant were great places to have a good time with friends. I enjoyed walking along the beach, and the idea of staying in a bungalow was nice, but this was my second hotel in Nouvelle Caledonie and it wasn't my favorite. Compared with the beaches in Bourail and Noumea, this one doesn't really compare, and I didn't find much especially memorable about Poindimie. The main downside of bungalow living was all the bugs. In the two days I stayed, I came across a giant snail, a giant grasshopper, a lizard, and a bunch of flies. I'd recommend bringing bug spray.
