It was a peaceful, relaxing spot in the middle of a nature reserve, perfect for walking around and unwinding. Getting there is part of the adventure: it's about 3 hours by bus from Esteli. I caught the 2:15 pm bus from the north terminal in Estelì, and it dropped me in front of the finca. The road is rough, so a 4x4 is needed. The bus ride is very slow, but that comes with visiting this amazing place. The shared dorm costs $10, or you can get a cabaña for $35 all inclusive. Wi-Fi worked well in the common area, but there's no signal in the room. The dry WC could be improved. The five dogs on the property are lovely, though they're a lot to handle. There's no shared kitchen, but the restaurant serves delicious food, breakfast is 150NIO and lunch or dinner is 300NIO. Tap water is fine to drink. Isabel, the owner, is very kind and helpful.

The two young locals working there were kind and helpful, and I liked seeing a place locals genuinely use rather than one aimed only at tourists. But I came for a couple of quiet nights in a remote retreat, about an hour from the nearest town, and the Sunday night bar scene made that hard. People were drinking, shouting, and loud enough to hear clearly from my room well into the evening. The bar was crowded, smelled strongly of alcohol, and had spilled drinks on the floor. Guests had nowhere else to sit or relax. When I raised the noise, the owner smiled, shrugged, and said, “it’s basketball day, what do you want me to do about it?” She said it happens every Sunday. I hadn't been warned, and it felt dismissive, especially since the noise directly affected the stay I wanted. The toilet had no running water. That might be intentional for an eco setup, but in practice it felt unhygienic. WiFi was advertised, but there was none in the dorm. There was no restaurant menu either, so I had to ask what drinks were available and how much they cost. I'm learning Spanish and asked the owner to speak it with me. She did at first, but less than an hour later switched back to English, despite there being very few guests. I'm still learning, but people often engage with me in Spanish, so it felt disrespectful. The dogs chewed through my shoelaces. The owner laughed and said, “well, at least it wasn’t the sole.” An apology would've been better. I understand it's a rustic, eco-style stay, but basic communication from the owner and other parts of the experience fell short. It wasn't just one problem, and I cut the trip short, regretting even one night.

I left after one night and had to cut my Miraflor stay short. The dormitory was filthy and, to me, not safe for people to stay in. Dirt and dead insects were everywhere. The mattresses, bedding, and even bedframes were stained, damp, and covered in what looked like years of mould. The toilet was in equally bad shape. The owner should be ashamed to offer accommodation in that condition. Avoid it.

The cabin was beautifully painted, almost like an art gallery, and the view was breathtaking. We had the whole cabin for our group of five. The place is remote and hard to reach, but we thought the surrounding nature made the trip worthwhile. Flowers, birds, and gorgeous plants make it feel like a little paradise. Isabel, her son, and the staff were kind and helpful. The meals were excellent and carefully decorated. The relaxed dining area has hammocks, and the three dogs would walk with us around the lovely neighborhood, which was very cute and felt protective. We had a very pleasant stay and would recommend it.

Best place I've visited in Nicaragua. Beautiful dorm, Elsa's food is delicious, and the staff are very friendly. I love the dogs.
