Rancho Merida

There are lots of comedores nearby with cheap, tasty meals, and kayak trips to see Kaimans can be arranged here for a competitive price. The rancho is run well, and the family is warm and friendly. It’s a quiet, peaceful place rather than a social hangout. If you want a budget stay with a more authentic Nicaraguan experience, this is a good fit.

The homemade food was amazing, and waking up to monkeys and chickens was something else. Osvaldo picked me up from the ferry and made sure I had what I needed. His tips took me to places like Playa Primavera and on a walk through his plantain farm, where I even picked some for dinner. The wifi was strong, and his kindness made everything easy. This was the Ometepe experience I’d hoped for.

The family's hospitality is incredible, and the food gets a 10/10 for its authentic Ometepe flavor. They can arrange tours to popular spots around Ometepe Island in their own vehicle or by renting out the hostel's well-maintained bus. I stayed in an economical single room during Holy Week, so I didn't get to see inside the cabins. The room was comfortable and had what I needed for the night. Bathrooms, including the shower and toilet, are shared and outside the rooms. Videos attached.

A very good hostel and worth the price. The only issue for my family was that the second cabin we booked had no air conditioning.
