Mukul Resort

We travel a lot, and this may have been one of our nicest stays. The service and food were both great. We went in March when only a few guests were there, and they upgraded us to a beautiful villa right on the beach. It had its own pool and direct beach access. Honestly, one of the nicest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in.

The staff were awesome, and the rooms were incredible. What a wonderful resort!

Mukul feels genuinely exquisite, with beautiful homes at prices far below what you'd pay in Mexico, Europe, or Costa Rica. Everything was spotless and well kept, and the place has a modern feel with a warm, gracious atmosphere. Just what you'd expect from a luxury golf resort.

We came to Mukul last week for golf and were made to feel completely unwelcome. I've had worse hospitality nowhere in Nicaragua. The course was shut because of rain when we arrived at 8am, and we were told it wouldn't reopen until 2pm. With five hours to wait, we thought we'd explore the resort, but Marta quickly told us we weren't welcome in the hotel area. We headed back along the beach and figured we could use the pool instead. Our server was lovely, but said Marta had told him we couldn't use the pool, beach, or loungers. We were the only guests there, so we ended up watching the empty, lovely resort from the restaurant. Even getting breakfast was awkward. At first they said we couldn't eat there without a reservation, even though the place was empty, but we did manage to get breakfast. When it was time to play, the pro shop staff member was unwelcoming and spoke limited English. The clubs we had requested and been promised weren't provided. It took nearly 20 minutes to get them changed, and nobody gave us any directions or explained the course, so we had to work it out ourselves. The course was in poor shape, and at $650 for two people, we were very unimpressed. The whole experience was really poor. If you're after luxury, I'd suggest Rancho Santana up the road. They couldn't have been more welcoming or hospitable.
