Amsterdam Dockside Flats

The apartment had plenty of space, but it wasn’t very clean, and there were suspicious white marks on the sofa. It was also uncomfortable to sleep on. The walls are thin, though luckily our neighbours weren’t partying. The location is walkable from the Main station and close to the city centre. But the smell was awful: you can’t open the windows, and the AC gave off a musty odor.

The apartment itself matched the description and was at a typical student standard. That’s the only reason I’m giving two stars. I stayed ten nights, and six of them were pure hell. On the first two nights, mice in the wall right beside the bed kept me from sleeping. Staff apparently fixed that. The heating then failed, so I spent the third night wearing all the clothes I’d brought and wrapped in several blankets. On the fourth night, a fire alarm went off in the middle of the night because a group of young men on a tour had been smoking illegally in the next room. The fire department arrived in under ten minutes, but the alarm took more than an hour to stop. The same group had unauthorized parties across the hall on nights five and six. Customer service eventually sorted things out both times, but much too slowly and apparently without consequences for the troublemakers. The nights were still ruined. The service is disgraceful: they come into your room without permission, and you have to send 20 messages about every little thing before anything gets done. They ignored my repeated requests for a partial refund to make up for these deficiencies. If you’re coming to Amsterdam to make noise and get drunk on alcohol and other substances, you might like it here. If you’re an adult or a family with children who want quiet nights, forget it.

The bed, kitchen and dining area were all very good. The rooms are quite nice overall, though the bathroom had a slight smell.
