Amsterdam House Hotel

The buffet breakfast was fantastic, and our host was helpful and happy to chat. We stayed in room 22, a double with canal views, and couldn’t have asked for a better location. The rooms are authentic and functional. If you want a traditional five-star experience, this is the place. If you’re after five-star amenities, go to the Hilton!

The hotel’s location gives it great value for the price, but the room cleanliness and mattress quality were the low points. We found the floor unclean when we checked in, so asking reception for housekeeping seemed reasonable. The gentleman told us they’re a three-star hotel and only provide housekeeping on the third consecutive day, which didn’t make sense in this situation and felt unacceptable for hospitality. They did send housekeeping to clean the room, but the mattress was uncomfortable.

Great location, and Ronaldo gave excellent service. We were moved to a larger room on the top floor, though there’s no lift. Breakfast was fine.

The staff were nice and the location was great, but the state of the room, especially the bathroom, was awful. Before arriving, I’d seen recent reviews mentioning bed bugs. Since our booking was non-refundable, we were nervous and checked the bed carefully. There were clear signs of bed bug droppings on the mattress cover, though thankfully we didn’t spot any actual bugs. We slept on top of the sheets and duvets, kept our suitcases open only briefly, and tried to spend as little time in the room as possible. I’d strongly recommend staying somewhere else to avoid the stress of worrying about bed bugs.
