The price was over £400 for a stay booked through Hotels.com, but the room I found on arrival was extremely unhygienic and nothing like the listing photos. I felt I had no choice but to leave. There were heavy stains on the carpet, visible dirt on surfaces throughout the room and bathroom, and grime and residue on basic fixtures, including the toilet brush holder. The bathroom corners and floor looked as if they hadn’t been properly cleaned for a long time. I’ve attached photos of the condition I found. I raised the problem with reception straight away. They told me to contact Hotels.com the next day about a refund. Even after I provided photos, the hotel refused to take responsibility and Hotels.com has so far declined to give me a full refund. This wasn’t a change of plans or a cancellation. The accommodation wasn’t as advertised or in a condition suitable for guests. The gap between the listing description and photos and what was provided was seriously misleading. For the price charged, the cleanliness and standard were completely unacceptable. I hope this helps other travellers make an informed decision. Photos taken on arrival at the hotel.

The hotel is basic, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the beds are especially comfortable. The carpets in the main hallway look worn and tired. There are good local restaurants, bakeries, and bars, with reasonable prices for food and drink. It’s also well located for trams into central Amsterdam. Good value for money, and I’d stay again.

We had an amazing four-night stay and would love to come back. I’d been a bit unsure after reading reviews, but the rooms were excellent, spacious, and clean, and the staff tidied them every day. The staff were lovely, and the location was great. Couldn’t fault it.

We found it overpriced. My wife booked on booking.com while in Australia, and the rate was much higher than the local price. The room smelled disgusting, apparently from the bathroom. Staff moved us to another room the next day, but it was extremely small.

We booked six nights and raised the condition of the room with reception soon after checking in. The difference between what we found and the Booking.com photos was shocking. The furniture was stained, there were blood spots on the sheets and greasy fingerprints on the bathroom door, and the bathroom heater had piles of dust that looked like months of buildup. I rarely write reviews, but this stay was bad enough that I feel I should warn others. The room was disgustingly unclean, and I don’t know what the cleaners are being paid for. The listing includes "outdoor furniture," and the photos show balconies with chairs and tables. Our balcony was tiny, had no furniture, and barely fit two people. None of the three street-facing balconies had furniture. Are guests meant to sit on bare concrete? We asked to move to a room that more accurately matched what we’d booked. Reception told us to come back at midday the next day. Then they offered a much smaller room with a balcony shared by three rooms, a clear downgrade from the larger room with a private balcony we’d paid for. We declined. Later, they said a similar-sized room with a bigger private balcony would be free in three days. We agreed to that compromise, packed our things, and expected to move for the last half of our stay. On moving day they said there had been a "mistake" and no room was available. It felt disingenuous, like a stalling tactic to make us accept the subpar room and stop complaining. When we challenged them, the staff member kept saying our current room was “very big,” as though that made everything okay. He also said he’d choose our room if he were us. It was clear our complaint wasn’t being taken seriously and they had no intention of moving us. Sleep was impossible with the paper-thin walls. We heard creaky stairs and people coming and going at all hours. Cleaners talked and laughed loudly and tossed things around just outside our door, even with a "Do Not Disturb" sign up. This ''hotel'' is a textbook case of false advertising, poor cleanliness, and dishonest staff. Save yourself the frustration and avoid it at all costs.
