Budget Hotel Hortus

We felt at home during our stay, thanks to the peaceful atmosphere and the hotel being clean and well organized. From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and helped us feel comfortable. The blonde lady at reception was especially attentive. She patiently answered all our questions and took care of our needs one by one, which made the whole stay easier. The staff’s kind service made for a wonderful experience. We’d definitely consider returning and highly recommend the hotel. Thanks so much for everything🫶🏻

The smell was awful, and it felt like we’d spent the night in a public toilet corridor. Our room had only a shower and sink; the toilet was shared on the floor. As soon as we entered, an intense, harsh chlorine smell from cleaning products nearly overwhelmed us and made our eyes sting. It seemed like detergent had been poured everywhere and left there. We rinsed the shower surfaces ourselves and aired the room out. Once that smell faded, the room smelled like a public toilet. The corridor was fine, but the odor in the room was not. After showering, the drain made very loud gurgling sounds. Management should call plumbers and at least clean the drains. The beds were old, the mattresses sagged in the middle, and the big, firm pillows weren’t comfortable. I slept badly. The floor looked vacuumed, but white socks turned black right away. The walls may as well have been cardboard. We could hear the neighbors breathing, talking, sneezing and even farting. We just wanted to get through the night and leave as soon as possible, rather than spend time at the hotel. Paying more than €180 for this night was disappointing. It seems the owners are cutting costs on everything while taking advantage of high demand.

The place feels lovely and homely, with clean rooms and a great location in a nice area not far from the centre. The staff were all amazing, so friendly and ready to help with anything. Special shoutout to Chelina (sorry if that’s not spelt right). Highly recommend, I couldn’t fault it.

The room was exceptionally clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a great spot: tram 14 stops outside the hotel and takes seven minutes to get into the centre. You can pay with contactless debit cards, just remember to tap out too. The hotel is dated, with wires visible all over. The stairs are very steep, so ask for a downstairs room if climbing is difficult.
