The good points were the location, just behind the concert-gebouw and a short walk from the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, and plenty of good restaurants. Staff were gracious and quick to bring things like fresh towels and delicious hot chocolate when asked. The bathroom was clean and modern. The pods were the hard part. There’s barely room for a small backpack and boots alongside the bed, like sleeping in a tent, and the stairs are very steep with no elevator, so luggage has to stay downstairs. Ventilation was poor: the capsules felt stuffy, my CO2 meter reached an unhealthy 2000 ppm overnight, and the air from the vent is shared with the rest of the dorm. We both caught a virus from someone sick in another capsule. It was also much too hot, even in December, and we regretted staying there. There was also a strong septic smell in the lobby from a sewer main problem, which wasn’t the hotel’s fault. Staff tried to cover it with spray fragrance, but the combination was awful.

The room was a capsule-style space for two, with RGB lights, AC, and even bathrobes. It was quite unique and comfortable overall, though the capsule door made a bit too much noise opening and closing. We stayed one night and could check in late, around 21:00, which was convenient. Keep in mind they ask for personal documents and a deposit, €50 by card or €100 in cash, against possible damage. Definitely recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay. The capsule room was clean and cozy, though some capsules mean climbing a little ladder. Common areas were stylish, and there’s a dining area and a cute bar. Breakfast was a nice buffet with a cappuccino machine. Toilets and showers had lovely blue and white tiles. Staff were friendly, and it was easy to reach places on foot or by tram. Quiet hours run from 10pm to 10am.

The staff were lovely, and after staying at a pod hostel in The Hague just before this, I found De Bedstee worth writing a positive review about. The Hague was adequate, and I may personally prefer it as a holiday destination, but I’d absolutely recommend De Bedstee. I stayed three nights in the second half of January 2026, on the top floor, floor 3. I’m a solo female traveler, 177cm and 150kg, and this was my fifth Amsterdam visit but first on my own. The location and facilities were great. I asked for a lower capsule and got one. The upper bunks looked accessible too, with their slanted ladders, and they weren’t as high as in other pod hostels I’ve used. I booked a single pod and was upgraded to a double as a perk. That was pure luck, so don’t count on it. A double could work well for a solo traveler wanting a budget hotel feel: free towels and lockable pods, while still being a hostel. There was some evening movement, but my pod was closest to the men’s toilets and I wasn’t disturbed. The pods are secluded and soundproofed. A small window is hidden by a curtain that would take deliberate effort to open, so it couldn’t happen accidentally while sleeping. My dorm’s women’s facilities had four showers, three toilets, and four sinks. I only saw someone else there at the same time once. The showers run without needing to press a button every minute. They supplied hand and body towels and a towel robe, about UK size 18, which I mostly used as an extra towel; these were replaced daily. Hairdryers, body wash, shampoo, and lotion were available. I have dry, eczema-prone skin, especially after walking in Amsterdam’s roughly 4°C weather, and the lotion worked for me without a reaction. I explored most of the city by tram from the stops outside the concert hall. The 397 bus also goes to the airport, and I reached its stop with a one-minute walk from the hotel. At night it was easy to stroll through the grassy park and paths in front of the Van Gogh/Rijksmuseum. Albert Heijn was a three-minute walk away for snacks and drinks. This is a hostel, not a hotel: it’s a bed, space for carry-on, a couple of plugs (EU + USB), and good WiFi. The bar and breakfast were available, but I didn’t use them. I ate outside food in the common areas, which was absolutely fine, and staff could store things in the fridge. Check-in involved a long conversation, but it was necessary and helpful. I got my deposit back within one business day of checkout. I rarely write reviews, but I’ll be back.
