I don’t usually review hotels, but my experience at Hotel de Westertoren was bad enough that I feel I should warn future guests. The location is decent and the rooms aren’t bad, but the bathrooms are lacking and oddly laid out. More seriously, the staff were extremely unprofessional when I arrived. They said they didn’t have my credit card through booking.com, even though I’d already been charged an in-case-of cancellation fee through the website. They told me to pay in person, then photocopied my card, which seemed very odd. One of the beds was much worse than the others. Its mattress sank and gave no support, so nobody slept in it. After we’d checked out, a $230 charge appeared on my card without any contact from the hotel. When I called, they claimed we had broken a bed, and made up a story that our group had been “jumping on the beds” and “refusing cleaning to hide the damage.” We did neither. They also gave me false information about the bed’s cost and sent an extremely zoomed-in photo of the supposed damage, where it’s impossible to tell what’s even shown. I attached the image for context. There’s no damage policy listed, and they handled all this outside the booking agency I’d booked through. Potential guests should understand the risks involved in booking here. What happened caused a lot of hassle, and it seemed very clearly like a scam targeting younger customers. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. Beware of this hotel.

The strongest point of Westertoren Hotel is its location: it’s extremely central and ideal for exploring Amsterdam on foot. But the value for money disappointed me, especially given that the price was far from cheap. The room we were given for three people was so cramped that we had to step over our luggage to get around. The beds seemed comfortable, but the single bed was very narrow and there was a real chance of falling out at night. The furniture was old and worn, the bathroom tiny, and the mirror above the toilet made it impossible to wash properly, do skincare, or shave comfortably. Soundproofing was almost nonexistent. We could hear everything through the walls and outside noise came through the balcony door. The hotel has no restaurant; breakfast is delivered to the room and is extremely basic, nothing to justify the price. You can see that in the photos too. We also had the same payment issue that appears in other reviews. Even though we’d paid for the reservation through Booking.com, the hotel asked us to pay again on arrival, saying they’d cancel that payment later so Booking could refund us. That seemed suspicious and unnecessary, and there was no clear reason to pay twice for a booking that was already paid. Getting to the room meant climbing extremely steep stairs. It’s a real effort even without luggage, and good luck if you have heavy suitcases. If you’re undemanding and only want a place in the city centre, it might work. If you’re expecting comfort, transparency, and good value, you may be disappointed. And again, good luck with those stairs!

The manager was friendly and helpful, even though I can't remember their name. Breakfast was better than average, and the rooms were a nice size with a good view of people passing along the sidewalks from shop to shop. The location made it easy to reach shops, trains, and buses. The staircase is steep and there isn't a lift, but people were considerate when passing each other on it. I stayed in April 2025 and had a great time. Thanks for the good service.

The location is the one good thing about this hotel. Its entrance stairs felt dangerous, so check the photo before booking. There's no bar or breakfast room, and I was told breakfast would be brought to my room at 08:15. I waited until 08:40, though I'd already paid, and nobody came. When I raised the missing breakfast, they tried to brush me off. I paid for two breakfasts and they won't make it right. I'm almost sure they ate them themselves. This hotel is a disgrace.

For the price, this worked really well for a solo trip. The location is central, and the room was clean and had everything I needed. Breakfast was included, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. There are lots of stairs because it's an old building, but the hotel is excellent for what it costs.
