Hotel Di Ann Amsterdam City Centre

The location is fantastic, within walking distance of Anne Frank, 9 Streets, and local convenience stores. The staff were friendly and willing to help, and our room was cleaned daily. Such a shame that a beautiful building isn't being maintained properly. We stayed four nights at this strikingly designed hotel in central Amsterdam. The entrance is tucked between shops on the main street, and the stairs up to reception are so steep you couldn't carry a suitcase up them. Our room, 413, wasn't shown on the numbering signs, so we couldn't find it at first. I suspect it may once have been a storage room, as it didn't look like the rooms in the adverts. The bathroom sink had a big crack, and the floor by the window felt unstable, probably from water damage near the window. The TV didn't seem to work and looked like it was barely hanging on the wall, with wires dangling on both sides. There was a coffee machine and one disposable cup, but no spoon. The paintwork looked unfinished, and the toilet was so close to the bathroom door that my knees and face were pressed against it.

The staff were really nice and let us leave our bags before check-in and after check-out. It was the cheapest option and the location was great, and luckily we didn't have bed bugs. Still, the reviews are pretty accurate: it wasn't very clean, the stairs are crazy, and the photos are misleading. If you're working with this kind of budget, I'd definitely look at a hostel or staying in haarlem.

We had no issues overall. When our radiator acted up, Whiston and Joel fixed it straight away, and they were lovely. The place was clean, and the stairs weren't too bad. There's a public area on the 1st floor with a balcony for smoking, including 420 products. For water and munchies, there's an Albert Hein just up the road 🙄.

We had to book somewhere else that same day. The location is actually really good, which makes it such a shame, but the stay was awful. The rooms looked nothing like the photos, and the entrance was tucked between shops. The stairs were narrow and so steep that getting our luggage up was really hard. The beds were rock hard and looked infested; sleeping there would have been impossible. This felt like an absolute scam of a 'hotel,' if you can even call it that.
