Hotel Mai Amsterdam

Our room was ready early, which was a nice bonus, and the staff were super friendly. As first-time visitors to Amsterdam, we also thought Hotel Mai was in a great spot. We had asked for a double bed, though, and got two single beds pushed together, with separate duvets. That was a bit disappointing. We'd still definitely come back.

The hotel is on a quiet street directly parallel to the red light district, making it handy for seeing the sights. We came by train, and Amsterdam Centraal Station was only a five-minute walk away. It's a brilliant location. Our loft-style room had a canal view and was excellent. The honesty bar was a great idea, and we enjoyed sitting in the lounge or taking a drink back to the room. Staff were lovely, and the breakfast buffet was handy before a long day walking along the canals. A lovely little hotel, highly recommended for a stay in Amsterdam.

For the price and such a central location, I really enjoyed this short stay and would come back. I was here for one night in September of 2025 after a miserable couple of nights' sleep at an Airbnb-style 'hotel' about 15 minutes away. My top-floor room and bathroom were both massive, and the lighting had a real vibe. The view outside was pretty cool, though dirty. See the photo.

Heavy snowfall in Amsterdam meant all flights were cancelled, so it was impossible to travel. I asked to reschedule or find some other fair solution, but the hotel wasn't willing to do either and showed no goodwill. It felt as if they just wanted to keep the money without providing a service. In such unusual circumstances, I expected a more understanding, customer-focused response. Very disappointing, and sadly I can't recommend it.
