Hans was so welcoming and polite, and our room on the lovely ship Gandalf was spotless and warm. The location made it easy to walk everywhere. We had a wonderful stay and I’d highly recommend the ship.

The beds were really comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly. Our room, number 5, was right by the boat entrance, though, so people getting on board kept waking me up. There wasn’t much thought given to practical things either: if you lock yourself out at night, for example, that’s a problem. The bathroom had only a small bin, not enough towels, and no soap.

Once you reach Oosterdok, your search for Gandalf is over. The ship has a lovely charm. I really enjoyed staying there, and the walk into central Amsterdam was a useful way to get going before the day. I had such a happy time that I’d stay again.

We had a lovely time at Gandalf’s, including relaxed breakfasts each morning. The room was tiny for three, but that didn’t bother us, and the little beds were surprisingly comfortable. It’s close to everything, and we could leave our bikes on the boat. Thanks!

We walked to both the city center and central station every day from this well-placed hotel. The rooms were good for their size and price, breakfast was good, and the staff were lovely and helpful.
