Jaz in the City Amsterdam

The fresh omelette was the part of breakfast we liked. Everything else about our stay was awful for a hotel rated four stars. The room looked like a one-star place, filthy everywhere we looked, as the attached pictures show. They call it “sustainable,” but the water pressure was poor and the button system barely worked. Supposedly it’s meant to make you use less water. Good luck washing yourself while menstruating. The coffee machine didn’t work, one tea pack was empty, and the teabag they did provide was made of nylon. To me, that says a lot about how much they actually care about the environment. Nobody told us on arrival that breakfast had to be paid for on the spot, or we’d be charged the “full” price at checkout. H REWARDS Corp. didn’t tell us either. Luckily, the girl at the front desk sorted it out at the last minute, so thanks to her. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. There are plenty of nearby hotels with a much better rate.

The staff made this stay stand out. Everyone I met was helpful and professional, and I especially want to mention a member of housekeeping from Colombia. His cheerful attitude and willingness to help made a real difference. I’m the Spanish guy who said I’d worked in hotels in Oslo before XD. I was in Amsterdam for work, and the hotel was very convenient for the Amsterdam Arena. The rooms were spacious and the beds exceptionally comfortable. The whole team is why I plan to stay here again whenever I’m back in the city. Great job, and thank you for a wonderful visit.

The room was quiet despite facing the entrance and exit to Ziggodome, and there was no noise as concertgoers left. The mattress and pillows were comfortable, though the pillows were quite firm. The bathroom floor heating was nice, and the internet worked well. A lot of the room’s design was frustrating. The lighting was very dim, which made doing makeup difficult. The blackout blinds were worn out and let light through, and several needed replacing. There was no phone, just a tablet meant for calls and room service, but ours didn’t work, so we couldn’t contact reception or order anything. The room heating used an unexplained scale from 1 to 4, with no indication of what those numbers meant. The shower was awful to use. Its touch buttons barely responded unless you pressed them as if giving CPR, and even then you had to press hard. The drain was hidden beneath a large tile, with a narrow gap around it for the water. That gap was black, slimy and full of sludge, and looked like it had never been cleaned. The grout in the lower half of the shower was also in bad shape. Breakfast was extremely basic, with few choices, especially compared with other European hotel breakfasts. The orange juice wasn’t fresh, and there wasn’t a good selection of bread. Staff were either genuinely engaged or seemed not to care at all, a strange mix. I also didn’t enjoy the rockstar theme being pushed everywhere.

The wellness area is cosy and a nice way to unwind after a concert. The rooms are modern, and I loved playing my songs on the speaker 🧡 I’ve stayed twice already and would come back again. It’s great value for the price, and the staff are super attentive.
