After spending 840 euros through Airbnb for four nights in mid-May 2024, Airbnb declined to let me write a review of JorDam. They probably knew it would be negative. My wife and I arrived excited, but our first concern came when we signed our travel documents beside the owner’s cat sprawled out on the kitchen table. My wife is allergic to animal hair. She’s stayed places with cats or dogs before, but not where they could get into the living and sleeping areas. We have a dog at home, and I hoped the guest space would be clear of animal hair. The cat followed us upstairs, rolled around on the carpet by the bed, and jumped onto the highest window as if it were his playground. About 20 minutes later my wife started having trouble breathing and had to leave the building. We also noticed mould three tiles up in the bathroom, unlike in the supplied photo. And while the advertised loft made it reasonable to expect stairs, these were as steep and narrow as you could imagine, not suitable for older people. For the next three days we argued with Airbnb about a full or partial refund. The owner said the details were in the listing, but I certainly hadn’t noticed them when I booked in Nov 23. Airbnb seemed to be on our side and asked the owner for a refund, but the owner was determined to pay nothing. I then asked for the commission and unused cleaning fee back. Airbnb abruptly replied with what they called a final response: nothing, and the matter was closed. Fellow travellers, please learn from my costly mistake.
