Leonardo Hotel Amsterdam Museum Quarter

The location was the main reason we picked this hotel. Bus 397 to Schiphol is just a two-minute walk away, handy for a late flight, and the Rijksmuseum, public transport, and the city centre are all close by. We were three adults, though the room felt tight even by European standards. Once our cabin bag and checked suitcase were open, there wasn’t much room to move. The double bed was fine, the single bed was narrow and not very comfortable for an adult, and the blackout curtains worked well. The bathroom was tiny. Its sink bowl was cracked but still usable, and a few ants sometimes came out of it or appeared near the toilet. We were on the ground floor. The shower had good pressure, but water could spill out on one side, so you had to be careful. The worn area showed that this happens often. A hair dryer was provided. I emailed twice and got no reply, despite receiving confirmation that the messages had been sent. Housekeeping also takes some planning: you have to book it on the website the day before, or they apparently clean only on day four. Late checkout can be arranged for €10 an hour after the usual 12:00 checkout, and luggage can be stored afterwards. For the price we paid, averaging over 200€ a night, I probably wouldn’t come back. It might make more sense for a couple, or a couple with a child, especially at a lower price. We saw some basement rooms from outside that looked bigger, if you’re okay with being below ground and having tiled floors. The hotel feels like a modern three-star place. The entrance isn’t at ground level, which could be difficult with heavy bags or reduced mobility.

The views were stunning, and the whole place had a luxury feel. We loved the decor, including in the clean, well-equipped rooms. A mini fridge came in handy for drinks and snacks from the local shop. We were a family of five and had to book two rooms. They ended up in different parts of the hotel, though that wasn’t too much of a problem since we spent much of our time exploring. The Leonardo Hotel is beautiful and very well placed for seeing Amsterdam. Reception gave us a warm welcome and the staff were helpful.

Being right in central Amsterdam was a big plus, and the breakfast food was great. After we complained that the water was shut off daily from 12pm to 3pm, apparently because of plumbing, the front desk gave us vouchers for breakfast and drinks. That interruption wasn’t great for a hotel room we’d paid for. Our room was clean and roomy, with comfortable beds. The TV channels were very limited, if there were any worth watching. The bathroom worked, but felt awkward: the shower is level with the floor, so water runs out freely, and the towel racks are strangely high.

At night it was peaceful, even though the hotel is an easy walk from the canals, good cafés, and the main sights. It made a lovely base for exploring Amsterdam. The staff welcomed me right away and were quick to help whenever I needed something. The place felt cozy and stylish, and everything was spotless and well looked after. I had a relaxing stay and would gladly come back next time I’m in the city. I’d recommend it to someone looking for a comfortable, welcoming hotel.
