Stayokay Amsterdam Oost - Hostel

This has been my favourite hostel in Amsterdam for ages, and I keep coming back because it has what I need. There’s a lift, a chair in the room, adjustable heating, and a window that opens. The door works smoothly and isn’t too heavy or noisy. There’s enough room for everyone’s suitcases and bags, and the under-bed lockers are the right size. The beds work for people over 175 cm, and I guess they’d still be bearable at 2,00. Each has a lamp and charger. The wash basins in the rooms work perfectly and have a lamp too. You can borrow a hairdryer from reception. You also put on and remove your own bedsheets. I’ve always felt sympathy for housekeeping, so that seems like the least we can do to make hotel workers happier. I still think it’s a great idea. There’s a policy against bringing food in, and there’s a reason for it. On my last day I saw a mouse, though that’s kind of a local thing to have. The bar has cute colorful tables, great coffee, and big plants. The only disturbing experience was when three buses arrived in the middle of the week full of French teenagers. There’s such a big couch all along the wall that I still had my spot. This is the most reasonable hostel you’ll find in the city. It’s all FIVE!

The friendly staff deserve extra points! We were surprised by how close the place was to the centrum. Our double comfort room was clean and easy to use, with a separate shower and WC, towels, and a table and chair. If you just need somewhere to sleep, it’s perfect. I’d definitely book again.

The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. It’s outside Amsterdam’s centre, but getting around is very practical: bus 22 goes straight to the train station, and tram 7 reaches lots of nice spots around the city. I have nothing bad to say and would recommend it 100%.

I’ve had two great stays here. The rooms are very clean and the beds are set up comfortably. The location is convenient too. On my second visit, our electronic room lock stopped working, but the staff quickly moved us to the room next door and sorted things out promptly. Breakfast was decent, though one small complaint is that it didn’t feel worth the price. It’s a lively hostel, so we heard quite a lot of noise at night, but the free earplugs at reception helped a lot.
