Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam

I came into Amsterdam a day early and used a complimentary night from my Hilton Diamond status. I loved this hotel and didn’t want to leave! When my Uber arrived at checkout, the guys helped with my bags and had me wait in another room while they watched for it. Lisa handled checkout and was great, as she had been at check-in. The spa was serene, with a sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. There’s a door to the garden, which I imagine is lovely in summer, but I was there in February and it was freezing. My massage was great. The masseuse noticed my lower back pain and suggested a physical therapist, saying it could come from my glutes, legs, or knees. I’ve seen masseuses in the States and Canada over the last two years, and none had mentioned that. Very professional staff. I also had breakfast, included with my status. They brought a whole tray of assortments, all the juices and coffee I wanted, plus another dish. I ordered French toast, and everything was delicious. I couldn’t finish it all, so I took some back to my room for later. Dinner there was lovely too. Since the bar only had snacks and the restaurant felt too open for me to dine alone, I ordered room service. The Waldorf Astoria Burger was so good I’d come back just for it. Lisa was amazing at check-in and let me choose a scent for my room, which was such a fun surprise. My room wasn’t ready at 3pm because I booked late, but I didn’t mind waiting with the second glass of champagne they offered. When it was ready, Lisa and Fae showed me to it to make sure I liked it. It was beautiful, and I loved the light coming into the bathroom. The bathtub was so nice I nearly fell asleep in it. They also left cute, delicious welcome chocolates shaped like Amsterdam shoes. As soon as my cab stopped outside, a man came down the stairs to carry my bag and escort me to check-in. They offered me a drink, and I asked for champagne. They brought two glasses!

The garden at the back is a lovely place to relax, and the rooms have automated shutters to stop them overheating in warm weather. The breakfast restaurant is excellent, and there’s a two Michelin star restaurant on site. It’s a beautifully renovated historic building in an excellent location. At check-in you can choose from several custom room scents. Service was great across the board, from the doormen and front desk to the concierge and room attendants. One of the best hotels I’ve visited anywhere.

The hotel sits on the Gentlemen's Canal, within easy walking distance of museums, coffee shops, and great restaurants. The building is gorgeous, with parts dating back to 1660. It’s several old houses joined together to create one remarkable hotel. The rooms are spacious and spotless, the staff are incredibly well trained, and the food is excellent. If you get the chance, I highly recommend the High Tea in Peacock Alley.

We went to Spectrum for dinner, our first time at a Michelin star restaurant, and had the best meal we’ve ever had. The dishes were creative and flawless, and the team made us feel special all evening. Huge kudos to everyone there for making it so memorable. We were celebrating our fifth anniversary at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, and the staff made us feel celebrated from the moment we arrived. Their warmth and attention to detail set a new standard for hospitality. Breakfast was very, very good, easily one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had, with high quality ingredients and extraordinary service. Every part of the stay felt personal and meaningful. We highly recommend it for a world class luxury experience and can’t wait to return.
