Van der Valk Hotel Goes

We'd stayed at several Van der Valk hotels before and expected a bit more. The room felt dated, with yellow outlets that looked like they hadn't been updated in ages, and we missed having a socket on one side of the bed. The bathroom was spacious with a big shower, though the floor was slippery. Breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly. They arranged a room beside ours for my wife's grandma, who needed a special needs room. The location is pretty good, although a nearby festival was so noisy that we couldn't sit outside that night.

The hotel is a good base for exploring the area, with free parking around it. Staff at reception and in the restaurant were friendly, and the meals met the Van der Valk standard for a reasonable price. Rooms are roomy with great beds, though a little dated. There's no air-conditioning, but you can open the balcony door. The bathroom has been updated, but the ventilation and lighting aren't good.

There isn't a queen bed, just two twin beds pushed together. The room itself was clean, but the shower needs more cleaning, especially around the black mold, and the balcony needs attention too. Our first room hadn't been cleaned when we arrived. A simple system to tell reception which rooms are clean and which aren't would help. There's even a plastic bag left in the tree outside, which someone could easily pick up. Also, there's no air-conditioning, so avoid staying here on hot days. There's no fan either. You can open the balcony door, but then you hear everyone else doing the same, and insects get inside.

The price feels a little high for a hotel that could use some maintenance, though I understand they're planning a brand-new building, and I'm looking forward to staying there. One thing Van der Valk does well is consistency. You know you'll get a clean, convenient room with a comfortable bed, a well-equipped bathroom, a TV, and a coffee machine.
