Landal Landgoed De Elsgraven

The park felt almost empty, even though the front office said it was fully booked. Hardly anyone seemed to be at the restaurant or pool, and there were no kids at the entertainment. During the official holiday period in the Netherlands, I’d expected things to be packed. The front desk worker also made and served the occasional coffee, looked after the park animals, and organized the children’s activities, which happened only twice that week. At other Landal parks we’ve seen daily activities with music, lots of kids, and more entertainment. Here, the activity was some pictures printed for the children to decorate, and only two other kids joined ours. It was held in a dark, damp cellar called the indoor playground, with leaking ceiling pipes and worn couches. It didn’t feel like a party place. The outdoor play area was okay, but very basic. The pool was basic too, with just a simple slide, no oversight, and a changing area that wasn’t very clean by late afternoon. The Wi-Fi kept losing its internet connection, though the maintenance man took the modem and fixed it within 24 hours, so that was a small problem. Upstairs, the bathroom was very dated, the shower pressure was low, and the shower itself was just a basic one on a rail. That wasn’t the luxury experience I expected from a deluxe house. We rented a “deluxe” house at this Landal park. Usually that means a pretty good place, but our recent experiences have shown us that the age of the park and its houses matters. We weren’t lucky here: the house was old and run down. The furniture fabric was loose and damaged, and some dishes and glasses were damaged too. In a six-person house there were only two red wine glasses. The sauna included with the deluxe house wasn’t a nicely built-in one, but a DIY version set up in a bedroom, and it had clearly seen better days. Our holiday started with a house that wasn’t clean. There were squashed bugs on the walls, lots of spiders and cobwebs, a stained toilet, and even the previous family’s dishes were still in the dishwasher. With prices like these, we were really let down by this week at Landal. I can’t recommend this particular park to friends or readers. Find a newer park with modern, luxurious houses and good entertainment. That’s why we go to parks like this. Sad, but that’s my conclusion.
