Vakantiewoningen 'Hoeve de Witte Olifant'

We spent a week in the Cottage at De Witte Olifant, Noorbeek, enjoying the peace, the views, and all the options for walking, cycling, and eating out. Our only drawback, as people in our 80s, was the stairs up to the bedroom.

We had a really relaxed stay in this beautiful half-timbered farmhouse and courtyard, and felt welcome from the start. The owner greeted us warmly, with a pie in the fridge and a bottle of water to take on the many walks and bike rides nearby. The apartment is basic, cozy, and clean. When the weather’s nice, it’s lovely to sit in the garden and look out at the horses and hills. There’s also an outdoor kitchen for barbecuing. We had a great time and would gladly come back.

The garden is lovely, and it’s good value for money. From this nice location you can head in any direction for walks, cycling, or drives. We’re going to enjoy a few more days here, and of course visit Maastricht and Epen. Apartment number 4 is a little small, though it’s nice, clean, and cozy. Some furnishings and defects need attention. The mattresses and bedding are really worn out, the open stairs feel awkward without a handrail, and the garden furniture is stained and badly needs fresh paint. The outdoor area could be tidied and made cozier, and the dangerous chestnuts cleared from the path. There’s plenty to do.

The surroundings are beautiful, there’s plenty of space around the cottage, and we were welcomed with a tasty flan. The cottage itself fell far short, though. The stairs felt dangerous, the bathroom smelled bad, the toilet seat didn’t fit, and the beds squeaked, although the owner did try to fix that. There were only four glasses for five people, and everything in the cupboards was dirty. Thanks to the nice weather, we spent a lot of time outdoors and went for walks. Being close to Maastricht was a plus too. I’d call it “luxury” camping 😋.
