Broeck Oudewater

The hotel and restaurant were nice, and the room was fine. There was a bit of outside noise, but it was acceptable. At breakfast, we asked for a cup of milky coffee, but the young woman brought hot water, possibly because she didn’t understand English very well.

The breakfast was a real highlight, and the restaurant on site was handy when we didn’t want to look elsewhere for dinner. The room was clean, a decent size, and had both air conditioning and windows that opened for fresh air. The friendly staff made us feel welcome, and the price felt fair for what the hotel offered. My only real comfort issue was the pillows: both were high and about the same size, so I didn’t sleep as well as I’d hoped. It’s a cozy little place, and I’d consider coming back. There’s no gym, though.

We’ll certainly come back. The room was comfortable, breakfast was excellent, and parking was available on site. Check-in was quick, and the staff were pleasant. Oudewater is a lovely town to explore on foot, with several excellent restaurants just a short walk away. One small awkwardness was that the younger staff seemed so caught up chatting with each other that approaching them felt like interrupting. That seemed to stop when older staff were working.

The local cheeseboard was especially nicely presented, with tasting notes, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and knew the menu well. The portions felt small by Dutch standards, but the food was imaginative. It’s a cozy, welcoming restaurant, with lots of locals out for the evening. Dutch hospitality at its best.
