Bastion Hotel Roosendaal

The beds are only standard size, 200 by 90 cm, which seems like an oversight given how well the hotel otherwise suits taller guests. The doors are 230 cm high and the hangers sit at 2 m, so people over 2 m tall should be comfortable. It's a nice hotel on the route, and works well for a longer stay if you're in town for business.

I didn't have breakfast, and there were a few things about the room that made the three-day stay disappointing. There was lots of dust on the shelves and lamps, despite the room being cleaned by Ms. Fatima or Farima. The windows are odd: the outside ones close, but the inner ones don't seal properly. It was cool in the room, and the temperature couldn't be raised above 25°C, which wouldn't be comfortable in winter. The shower water was warm enough for me, though I think some people might find it cold. There were also large moisture cracks on the ceiling. I can't say whether it was damp or mold, but the marks were hard to miss. The staff were friendly, and I have no complaint about them. I also enjoyed playing billiards in the evenings, and the clean tap water deserves credit.

We liked the clean, comfortable room looking out over the park at the back, and the hotel is in a quiet neighborhood. Free parking was a plus, but breakfast at €17 per person felt far too expensive, so we ate out in the morning. The bathroom is quite small and might be uncomfortable for a heavier person. We don't like air conditioning much, but at night the room felt stuffy because only a small part of the window could be tilted open.

It's been two months and the hotel still hasn't returned the money for one of the two reservations they charged me for. I booked through the booking platform and arrived 30 minutes later, but they couldn't find that reservation, so they made another one and charged me for both. When I pointed it out, they said one charge would be refunded. This is deplorable and frustrating. Avoid this hotel. Refund my money!
