Hotel Erasmus

The rooms had some character, were clean, and felt like good value. I’m not keen on sprung mattresses, though. What really let the stay down was having no water in the morning. Staff apologized at checkout and said it had been fixed, but that came much too late. I was disappointed that they didn’t offer any compensation.

We were there for two nights. The beds were fine and most of the room was clean, but several things were broken: the bathroom light, the doorknob, and the shower door. There was also a pair of boxer shorts in the cupboard, probably left unused, but still unpleasant to find. They don’t serve breakfast either.

On the first night, the bath had only one door when it should have had two. While I was showering, that door fell onto my shoulder. I went straight to reception to ask what had happened, and was told it had been broken since the morning but they hadn’t had time to fix it. I was shocked. They shouldn’t have given me the room in that state, since it could have hit my head and caused a more serious injury. There was no AC, despite it being listed on my voucher. The first room had a fan, but the replacement room I was moved to the next day didn’t. That second room also had no WiFi access.

The rooms were warm and the bathroom was good. Reception was very polite, too. The walls are thin, though, so you’ll have to hope the guest next door stays quiet.
