Ibis Styles Rotterdam Ahoy

We had a very comfortable family stay. The room was clean and stylish, the atmosphere was nice, and the bed was cozy. It’s close to Ahoy arena, the shopping mall, and the subway and bus station. I’d definitely come back.

There was a rave in the lobby on Sunday that went on until 2am, and my room, 111, was vibrating. I had business meetings and needed to be up at 7am, so I got five hours of sleep. I book a hotel to sleep, and this was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. There was no indication when booking that this was happening. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have booked. I didn’t sign up for this.

We had nowhere else to stay that night, with a concert to go to and everything booked out. The ventilation in our room made a weird sound now and then, then got ridiculously loud when it properly turned on. Our first call for help went unanswered, so we went downstairs. A staff member came up, said they’d tried to fix it, and would return to check. We went out for dinner and let them come back, but the noise was just as bad when we returned. We called again, and it took some convincing to get someone to come up. They fiddled with the machine but didn’t fix anything. The staff member didn’t seem to know what to do and asked whether we could live with it or turn the ventilation off. Neither option was acceptable. The room was defective, but there was no solution or offer of compensation. The next morning, we were only told it would be passed to management. A few days later, there was still no response. Extremely dissatisfied.

The location is great for events at Ahoy center, and the breakfast was delicious. The reception service was nice too. But with the air conditioning on, I could only get the room to 21 degrees in mid November. Two people from reception tried to fix it before night, with no success. They left saying, “don’t worry, it will sort out”. Miserable experience. The shower water was warm, and the wall painting was somewhat nice.
