Hotel Santa Maria

Good coffee and breakfast, nice staff, great prices, and a perfect location. Loved Hotel Santa Maria!!! The best ever, and I'd highly recommend it.

The only thing I appreciated was that they were willing to move our luggage to the 3rd floor. The rest of the stay was the worst hotel experience of my life. They charged us €197 for New Year's Eve, and the broken mattresses made the bed uncomfortable. The shared toilet was filthy when we checked it, so we had to clean it ourselves. It wasn't the tranquil experience advertised. We couldn't get help with the heating at reception because nobody was there. The heating barely worked, and after four hours the room was still cold. The window had been left open, the only proof that the room was [unclear in source]. The room hadn't been vacuumed. There was a dysfunctional television above the bed, covered in dust, and the sofa was dirtier than one you'd find in a train station. Mold throughout the bathroom gave off a smell that stayed with us for the whole visit, making the room feel unsanitary. Profoundly disappointing.

The shower was amazing, and the staff were really nice and friendly. It's a great hotel on a cute little street, with a few pubs and restaurants nearby. The location is excellent. The room was pretty small and the light a bit weak. You can hear the tram from the room, which can be a little annoying, though it isn't too loud.

We stayed in a twin double, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We arrived at 1am with bicycles, which they stored in the building next door. The manager had already left but stayed in touch by phone to make sure someone let us in. The room was clean, the beds comfortable, and the shared bathroom huge. Breakfast was substantial, served by a friendly Dutch lady, and we had free Wi-Fi in the room. The price was outstanding for a hotel in the centre near the river. The rooms aren't enormous, but with a location like this you're not likely to spend much time in them. I'd stay again.
