Rotterdam Teleport Hotel

We had a great view and a good-sized room on the 7th floor, and could store our luggage after checkout. The room wasn’t cleaned at all during our two-night stay, though, and I had to chase them up for amenities. Apart from that, it was great.

The one real plus was being a short walk from Rotterdam central station. I booked through Expedia, and the listing photos were misleading. The facilities looked like they’d seen better days, and I’d give the place no stars if I could. At check-in, the front desk announced our room number loudly. There were two of us women, and that felt like an obvious privacy and safety concern. The doors weren’t soundproof or secure either. Whenever someone nearby opened and shut their door, ours shook as if it might burst open. Those things were inconvenient, but the condition of the room was the last straw. Not one towel was clean, even after I asked for fresh ones. There was black mold in the corners, where it seemed not to get cleaned. I have a sensitive respiratory system and started sniffling and coughing before I realized what it was. The carpet didn’t look like it was cleaned often, and despite daily housekeeping being advertised, there wasn’t any. I reported it to the staff and was met with indifference. They only sent housekeeping after we spoke with Expedia. After 2.5 days, I checked out early and found somewhere else because staying there felt unsafe and unsanitary. After many hours of calls and emails with Expedia, I got a partial refund for the nights I didn’t stay. I had top tier member status, but others may not be as lucky, since the hotel has the final say on refunds. If they don’t want to refund you, they won’t, no matter how well you explain the situation. You get what you pay for, though even that felt like too much here. I’d spend a bit more to avoid those unsanitary conditions. I hope local health inspectors look into this place because it’s a safety hazard. I hope the hotel takes the reviews seriously and improves. I’ve stayed in hostels that were cleaner, cheaper, and more reasonable. There’s no excuse for this if you’re calling yourself a hotel.

This happened about two years ago, but I still can’t forget or forgive it. We’d already checked in when they gave our rooms to someone else, then took our belongings and threw them into plastic bags. We had to accept another room, which was smaller than the one we booked, and they never returned our money despite several complaints. Never again.

My friend and I checked in to a REALLY COLD room, so I asked the receptionist how to turn up the heat. He said there was nothing he could do because the whole hotel used the same heating system. After I complained, he said all he could do was file a report and send an email the next morning. I’ve never had such a bad experience with a receptionist.
