The James Hotel Rotterdam

The location made exploring the city easy, right in the heart of it. We also liked the 24/7 market and the comfy sofas in the lounge. From the 12th floor the view was incredible, it honestly made me feel like I was in New York! 🤣 Our room was spacious, comfortable, and spotless. The reception team were stylish, always smiling, and made us feel welcome. Everything seemed thoughtfully looked after, and we had a stay we'll remember.

The bed sheet had visible blood stains, which is completely unacceptable and made me question the cleaning and hygiene standards. The shower head was broken too, and there was no complimentary water or other basic hospitality. I had booked three nights but left after one and immediately booked another hotel. Nobody offered a refund, and when I raised the problems at reception, I wasn't taken seriously. Parking was another issue. I had clearly said when booking that it was a must, but on arrival there was none available and nobody tried to find a solution or seemed to understand. The trouble started at check-in: the woman at the desk came across as arrogant and not guest focused, with little professionalism or hospitality. It was the worst hotel experience I've had in more than 15 years of frequent business travel. Deeply disappointing and unprofessional, I strongly advise against staying here.

I stayed two nights for a conference less than a 10-minute walk away, and wanted somewhere safe, clean, and quiet. The room was especially peaceful at night. I couldn't hear anything from the other rooms. The front desk team were consistently friendly and helpful. I also liked the 24-hour area on the 2nd floor, where you can get coffee or snacks or just sit and relax. The gym was a nice extra.

I stayed here twice in October, first when I arrived in the Netherlands at the beginning of the month, then for my last couple of days before leaving on the last day of October. The front desk team were great, especially Joanne. Her British-sounding accent threw me at first because she was actually from the Netherlands, but she was so kind, caring, and helpful. I'd recommend this place and hope to stay here again if I'm in Rotterdam around September-October.
