Hotel Cafe The Windmill

It’s ideally placed for exploring Schiedam on foot. Our room was clean, with comfortable beds, and having a shower and sink in the room was very good. The toilet was shared with three other rooms, but that worked out fine.

The pub downstairs has a nice atmosphere, and the locals we met there were all very friendly. There’s also a windmill right across the street. The rooms are a bit dingy, and the toilet is shared in the hallway, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, it’s a fun place and you get what you pay for. I’d come back for that kind of stay.

The only upside was being able to check in late, even though communication was difficult. The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke, the shower in the room stank, and the shared toilet was dirty. We could hear the neighbour all night.

The woman who owns the place was very friendly to my friend and me. She explained the room in English and later offered to take us to the best restaurants in town when we asked about food. The room itself was okay, but not the best: just a sink and shower inside, with the toilet outside and shared with the other rooms. It wasn’t expensive, and we were glad to have spent a night there and explored the pleasant little town. The hotel is in central Schiedam, a small city just four minutes from Rotterdam by train, and it faces a windmill. It’s a quiet place surrounded by nature, and I’d recommend staying at least one night.
