The room was clean, with a comfortable bed and a huge walk-in shower. Our hostess was lovely and keen to make us feel at home. The layout was the main hassle: the sitting room is downstairs, while the bedroom and bathroom are up a very steep, narrow staircase. We left our big suitcase below, so getting settled was a bit inconvenient. Still, the place was close to the friends we were visiting.

I came to explore my family roots around this area, and this was a great place to begin. The owners were so welcoming that I felt right at home. They said they don't get many visitors from the US, and put up the first pin showing a visitor from Michigan on the home of 90% of the Dutch who came to the US.

There’s so much open sky in every direction here, and plenty of peace and room to clear your head. The countryside setting is lovely, and the welcome from the kind, helpful hosts was great. I imagine summer will bring colour and calm; winter can be a little tricky. Enjoy!
