Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Scheveningen

We had a good stay overall, and the room was spacious. Still, the hotel felt more like three stars than four, apart from the room size. There were some smaller annoyances from poor communication among staff, and if you’re vegan, mention it early so they can arrange special options. The main problem happened when we returned one day to find our room standing wide open, with a door stopper in place. The bathroom door was open too, and the light was on. At first we assumed someone was still cleaning, but nobody showed up over the next hour, so it seemed someone had forgotten to close the door and turn off the light. Our belongings had been left inside with the room open for hours. It was scary to think what might have happened. The receptionist on duty didn’t handle it well, and we had to come back three times before we could report it to the supervisor. The supervisor dealt with it professionally and offered symbolic compensation.

The location may be the hotel’s strongest point. It’s quite close to the beach, with a few tram stops nearby. The room was spacious, which I appreciated, and the air conditioning worked, though it didn’t bring the temperature to the level I wanted. The mattress was very thin and uncomfortable, and there was no fridge. Service felt uncaring. I understand it’s a business, but early or late check-in isn’t possible without paying a fee. It makes me question the four-star rating, which seems like three at best. Poor value for money. I was looking forward to the stay, but the room and service let me down badly.

The rooms felt too small for what they cost, and my TV remote didn’t work. Cleaning was only halfway done, with dust on the tables and marks on the door handles. The night clerk spoke barely any Dutch, and the guest ahead of me took over 20 minutes to check in. Scheveningen is lovely, but I wouldn’t stay here again or pay this much for a low-end hotel.

I won’t be coming back to Fletcher Hotel Scheveningen. When I found there was no toothpaste in the room, I called reception several times and got no answer. I went down and a new male staff member told me he was still training while a blonde woman was showing him the job. Training is understandable, but guests shouldn’t be left without an answer. The blonde receptionist first said they’d run out of toothpaste. When I asked whether they could check rooms prepared for the next day’s arrivals, she changed her answer and said toothpaste wasn’t provided at all. It came across as an excuse, and she seemed unwilling to help me or let the new staff member assist. The service felt far below what I’d expect from a four-star hotel. There were no basic amenities, and the welcome was unfriendly.
