Maria's Suite

Breakfast was fresh and hot, with lovely bread and croissants, served partly as a buffet and partly at the table. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Utrecht, though I’d say the hotel, or at least our room, needs refurbishing. We paid €482.50 for two nights, €74 for four breakfasts, plus €37.63 city tax. Our room, No 110, was an apartment with a living and kitchen area, which were well equipped. It was chilly when we arrived and the heating hadn’t been turned on, but we made the space cosy. The bed was squeezed into a narrow room, with no way to get out on the far side and no drawers or hanging space for clothes. The bathroom was spacious, but paint was peeling from the window woodwork. The shower had plenty of hot water, though it was clunky, kept dripping after being switched off, and leaked onto the tiled floor. The Hunfeld is in central Utrecht, on a pretty square between the station and the historic canal area. There’s a late-night bar on the square that can be noisy, and a corner across from the hotel seemed to attract people smoking weed. The staff were very friendly, sitting at reception just opposite the entrance. There was a funny smell, perhaps from the drains, as you entered and went upstairs to the first floor, though it wasn’t in the bedroom or breakfast room.

The large bed was comfortable, and I liked the little reading nook facing the street. The room was beautiful and spacious, with lots of big windows, right in the center of Utrecht.

The location right in the middle of the city was a real plus. It’s a cute, small hotel with stylish surroundings, and the staff were friendly and funny. I really enjoyed staying there. Breakfast was decent, too.

The rooms were spotless, and breakfast was delicious. Everyone on staff was so friendly and welcoming. With its lovely atmosphere and nostalgic charm, the hotel made the stay feel special. Highly recommended!
