The Nox Utrecht

I was happy with the stay for the price, and the design really appealed to me. The half moon room was beautifully done in dark tones. This is a sexy, quiet corner in the heart of Utrecht, with an unbeatable location. The room’s toilet is across from the sink and shower, which I found awkward. The half moon room also has just a small shower stall. It looks nice with its overhead rainfall shower, but it’s cramped and drains poorly. I wasn’t told clearly whether or when cleaners would come, so I was surprised to find them in my room when I returned to rest at 2pm. Morning service or a conversation about timing would have worked much better. On my last night the heat went out. They offered either half a refund for the night and I could stay, or a full refund if I found another room elsewhere. Luckily it wasn’t very cold, so staying was comfortable enough, but if it had been cold, that would have been a terrible and expensive hassle.

The restaurant food was superb, and the staff I met were all wonderfully friendly and helpful. When I asked for an iron, they brought one straight away. The room itself had some lovely features, including a private balcony, a bathtub on a balcony above the bed, and large windows with beautiful views across Utrecht, including the clock tower and other main sights. It was spacious, and the bathtub was really good. Even so, it needed some work. The paint was shabby and there was dust all over the room. The towels felt cheap for a luxury hotel, and there weren’t many power points. There was a USB port by the bed but no mini-USB, which seems like something a pricey hotel room should update. The water provided tasted a bit funny and seemed like refilled tap water, not a quality bottled brand like I’d expect. There was no iron in the room at first, but they got me one when I asked. Overall, pretty good.

We had a fabulous stay for our wedding anniversary. The hotel is beautiful and centrally located, and the staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and keen to go above and beyond to make it special. The bar was great, and breakfast was delicious.

The breakfast didn’t meet our expectations, and the room was very small and noticeably dusty, like it hadn’t been cleaned properly. The shower flow was very weak and uncomfortable to use. The air conditioning was extremely loud and kept switching itself on during the night, seemingly on its own. I managed only about an hour of sleep. We were quite disappointed and wouldn’t recommend the hotel.
