The garden-facing room was tidy and relaxing, with a view of the fountain and the cherry which happened to be in blossom. It had a coffee machine, hair dryer, and TV. Breakfast was great, and the castle room was very nice. The hotel is an old 18th-century castle, modernised tastefully while retaining many original features. There's a wonderful view as you turn off the main road toward the hotel. I was here for two nights on a business trip. The basement Spa had opened shortly before my stay and was finished to a high standard. It has two saunas, one warmer than the other, plus a steam sauna. The steam sauna was a bit disappointing: sitting down in it, it wasn't very warm, and I had to stand to feel the warm steam. The pool and relaxation area is nicely done, with comfortable reclining couches to unwind on after the saunas. The main letdown was the missing bathrobe in my room. Staff initially said I'd have to pay extra, even though it was included in my package. I had to go back and forth with reception before they realised it was part of my room, and they gave no explanation. Having to convince them to provide what I'd paid for didn't feel very premium. It was a minor issue in the overall impression of the hotel.

The Kennedy Suite was a fantastic choice, and the price felt very good for the quality. We were welcomed warmly by the staff throughout our stay. The highlight was the phenomenal 5-course meal, served with outstanding service. We also loved the wide selection of fine wines and whisky's. We'll certainly be back at Van der Valk Hotel Bloemendal in Vaals, South Limburg.

We liked the stay enough to add an extra day to our road trip. The staff went above and beyond, and breakfast was GREAT. Aachen is an easy trip from here. Make sure to have the low emissions tag on the car.

The hotel is pretty, but I didn't find it comfortable to rest there. There was a strong sewer gas smell in the bathroom that reached somewhat into the room. It seems like a properly sized ventilation fan could fix it, but it's disappointing they haven't done that. I'm not even sure the system has a fan. The air conditioning didn't run at night, not even its fan. The hotel chatbot said the AC would run overnight, which is why we booked. The bathroom door felt more like a cupboard door in quality and privacy, and the toilet is in the shower stall. A squeegee would really help get water back to the shower side from the toilet side.

The spa and other facilities are fabulous, and the hotel itself is beautiful with a great garden. It's well maintained, and we had a great time. The dinner is delicious, and so is breakfast. There's plenty to do nearby, including Maastricht and Aken, about 30 minutes away by car.
